Wedding Photography

Long after your wedding is over, one of the few things you will have to relive your wedding day, are your photographs.  A skilled photographer preserves moments you will not even remember by the time you return from your honeymoon.  The question is not whether to have your wedding professionally photographed, but how to find the photographer who will give you the images you will cherish for decades to come.  There are two main classes of photographers, the traditional photographers who shoot on film and nearly every shot is posed, and the modern photojournalists, who usually shoot digital and most images are candid.  Couples usually choose a photographer who is somewhere in the middle.

Wedding photography in the 21st century, is nothing like it was just five years ago.  This is due to the use of professional digital cameras for wedding photography.  In the past, the majority of professional wedding photographers used medium format film.  At that time, it was the best way to capture high-quality images.  Medium format film negatives are larger than 35mm negatives and produce a sharper image.  Since then, professional digital cameras have surpassed film in image quality.  Almost every image in this magazine is from a digital camera.  With digital photography, you have several unique ways to show off your wedding photographs, such as a DVD sideshow or a Wedding Story Montage album.

ASK QUESTIONS
Do you shoot traditional style, candid or both?  Will my wedding be shot with digital, film or both?  Do you bring an assistant?  Photographers should have at least one assistant to help with positioning people.  How many photographers will photograph my wedding?  Are you open to my suggestions of photographs I want taken?  Do you use multiple lighting for the pictures? This is recommended since images taken with multiple lighting appear more natural and look less like amateur shots.  Do you offer special services such as digital retouching, Story Montage albums or a CD/DVD slideshow?  Can we purchase the original negatives/images?
